“A golden cage is still a cage.” ― Madeline Miller, Circe
Hi everyone! Today we will review Circe by Madeline Miller.

This story follows the Greek Myth of Circe and her “life”. Now I put life in quotes because she’s immortal but you get the point. Circe is unlike her parents and that is clear; and when she learned the power of Witchcraft, she was banished to an island that she can never leave. While on this island, her powers become stronger and she is met with other important figures from Mythology such as Medea, the Minotaur, and Odysseus. Over the course of the story, she tries to figure out who she is, whether she aligns more with the Gods of Olympus or with the mortals as her life has now become entwined with theirs.

Now for my thoughts. Now you can’t get mad at me, you came to my blog for honesty and I know some people LOVE this book. Now don’t get me wrong, Madeline Miller is one of my favorite writers. I love The Song of Achilles, it is one of my favorite books of all time. But with Circe, I didn’t get that same feeling. On GoodReads, I gave the 3/5 stars. Now I’m not saying it was good, it had its moments, but I’m not saying it was fabulous. Something else about me, I love Greek Mythology, so I do feel that Madeline Miller did try to stay as true to possible as the myth as she could. But there were moments where I just needed to shut the book and take thirty seconds before I started reading again. Now I’m not going to say don’t read it, just because I didn’t like a book won’t mean you will as well, you could love it and have a completely different opinion. But if you’ve never read any of Madeline Miller’s work, I say start with The Song of Achilles then read Circe, it could be helpful.
